Unni Gopinathan er seniorforsker i Senter for Forskning på Epidemitiltak (CEIR) og Klynge for Global Helse ved Folkehelseinstituttet. For CEIR jobber han med utvikling av forskningsprosjekter for å styrke evaluering av smitteverntiltak samt styrke anvendelsen av denne kunnskapen. Han leder også flere NORAD- og NFR-finansierte forskningsprosjekter på hvordan helsepolitiske beslutningsprosesser kan bli mer inkluderende, både med henblikk på kilder til kunnskap som anvendes og hvilke aktører som får delta og informere prosessene: (1) NORAD-finansiert prosjekt om åpne og inkluderende helsefinansieringsbeslutninger; (2) NFR-finansiert prosjekt om hvordan lokale sivilsamfunnsorganisjoner oppfatter og tilpasser seg klimaendringer og dets helseeffekter; (3) NFR-finansiert prosjekt om hvordan kunnskap fra sivilt samfunn anvendes i beslutningsprosesser for å styrke helsesystemer og universell helsedekning (UHC). Fra mars 2020 til Mai 2021 bidro han også til instituttets koronavirusrespons.&nbs
