Sammendrag
ENABLE aims to reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) by reducing the life-long prevalence of major NCD risk factors among pregnant women in Ethiopia.
The project is designed to promote healthy diets, physical activity and reduce exposure to air pollution in a clean and supportive urban environment. The overall objective of the ENABLE is to equitably implement context-adapted, evidence-based interventions to promote positive behaviour change.
The project will take place in urban communities in four cities in Ethiopia: Addis Ababa, Adama, Harar, and Jimma.
Legal basis and approval of the project
The project has submitted and been approved for the formative study phase. This was submitted to the EPHI IRB (EPHI-IRB-573-2024) with approval from 5 October 2024 to 4 October 2025. The team also submitted to the REK SørOst 656164 which confirmed the study outside of their mandate.
For the implementation phase, the project submitted and received approval from the Ethiopian Public Health Institute's Institutional Review Board (EPHI-IRB-573-2024) from 26 September 2025 to 25 September 2026 with requirements for annual renewal. The team will soon submit ethics applications in Sweden and Norway, as well as, a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA).
