This study uses donated coded stool and respiratory samples without personal identifier to determine the prevalence and genotype of rotavirus, astrovirus and non-polio enterovirus in children in Nepal.
Sammendrag
Diarrheal disease and respiratory illness are major causes of childhood morbidity and mortality in developing countries. It is important to understand the etiology of diversity and distribution of different viral strains causing diarrhea and respiratory illness, to prevent severe morbidity and mortality among children. With limited resources and diagnostic facility, these remain major challenges in Nepal. This study use donated coded stool and respiratory samples without personal identifier to determine prevalence and genotype of Rotavirus, Astrovirus and Non polio enterovirus in children in Nepal. Our aim is to understand serotypes distribution and seasonal variation in Nepalese community. We will study co-infection with other viral or bacterial pathogens. Determining the prevalence and genetic diversity of these pathogens will support the preventive and control strategies for improvement of public health. The Nepal Health Research Council as National IRB of Nepal approved the study.
