Dr Stenehjem is an epidemiologist holding a tenured senior researcher position at the Department of Research, Cancer Registry of Norway at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, where he heads a research group focusing on occupational exposures and disease risk. He also has a part-time position as senior researcher at the Oslo Centre for Biostatistics and Epidemiology, University of Oslo.

Dr Stenehjem's academic interests lies within occupational epidemiology, occupational hygiene and exposure assessment, epidemiological study designs and methods, but he is also active in trauma epidemiology, lifestyle epidemiology and cancer survivorship.

Dr Stenehjem holds BSc and MSc degrees in physiology and epidemiology from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and the University of Verona (Italy). He obtained a PhD in epidemiology from the University of Oslo (Norway) in 2014, entitled ”Cancer incidence and occupational exposure in offshore oil industry workers”.
