Key message

The Norwegian Institute of Public Health was commissioned by the Norwegian foundation Mental Helse to search for research about the effects of using peers as interlocutors to prevent mental illness among youths and young adults.

Methods

We conducted a systematic literature search for systematic reviews and trials in several databases. The search was conducted in November 2016. We sorted potentially relevant references thematically. We did not read the studies, nor did we  assess them for quality.

Results

We found no systematic reviews, nor randomized controlled trials. We found eight potentially relevant references. Seven studies used ordinary telephone calls, and one study was about a mobile app. All the included studies concerned youths, students or young adults.
