EpiCorona: Analysis of risk factors, risk groups and consequences
This priority project is aimed at learning more about risk factors and risk groups for infection, serious illness and death linked to COVID-19, and to explore whether patients subsequently develop consequential conditions or new diseases.
We are constantly learning more about the risk groups for severe symptoms of COVID-19, but we still lack updated knowledge on the current situation in Norway. It is also important to monitor the complications, consequential conditions and new diseases that occur following infection with SARS-CoV2 and COVID-19.
We need this knowledge to better formulate and target measures in order to plan vaccination programmes and better understand the situation relating to the pandemic and its severity. A knowledge of both short- and long-term consequential conditions and diseases is also important for optimising treatment, planning healthcare services and ensuring that patients and the population at large are given reliable information concerning possible complications after illness and infection. This is also important in order to distinguish any adverse reactions to the vaccines from complications following illness.
About the priority project
We will build up analysis capacity and prepare prioritised epidemiological analyses in the management of the pandemic. The aim is to link the rich database that is available in Norway in order to deliver fast and up-to-date research in both the short and the long term.
Linkage and analyses will be carried out in the Beredt C19 emergency preparedness register, the CoronaREG and CoronaPREG research projects, NCDNOR, and at a later stage possibly through linking of the Norwegian Mother, Father and Child Survey (MoBa) with relevant outcome data.
Prioritised issues of the project are:
- Definition and operationalisation of medical risk conditions and sequela/complications.
- Estimate the importance of underlying conditions as risk factors regarding infection, severe illness and death in Norway.
- Investigate health outcomes and consequences after COVID-19.
We will cooperate with leading clinicians, the Directorate of Health, and national and international research groups. .
- Emergency preparedness register (Beredt C19)
