An online workshop with Lithuania to strengthen the assessment of public health interventions.
In December 2020, the Global Health Cluster at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health organised a two-day workshop for our partners, the Institute of Hygiene (HI) and the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU), on the topic of economic evaluations for public health interventions. The workshop was funded through the EEA and Norway grants, which aim to contribute to a more equal Europe, both socially and economically – and to strengthen the relations between Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, and the 15 beneficiary countries in Europe.
Health economists from the Global Health Cluster prepared the workshop, where the first day focused on the need for priority setting, importance of public health, and an introduction to economic evaluation with focus on its relevancy to public health interventions. On day two, the lessons learned were applied by critically appraising an economic evaluation, titled “Incredible Years parenting programme: cost-effectiveness and implementation” (Edwards, et al., 2016), a program also implemented in the Lithuanian context. The CHEERS checklist was used as guide for the appraisal. Furthermore, two guest-lectures from the Norwegian Directorate of Health presented on health financing in Norway and public health interventions on the level of municipalities.
