The centre is dedicated to conducting assessments of public health measures, enhancing research on these measures within the institute, and formulating models for user participation. The centre is also a national resource for evaluating public health initiatives, superseding local, county and national administrative levels.
The Centre for Evaluation of Public Health Measures is guided by the following overarching objectives:
i) Pursuit of High-Quality Evaluation: The primary aim of the centre is to undertake rigorous and high-quality evaluations of public health measures, thereby contributing substantively to the empirical foundation of public health interventions.
ii) Augmentation of Institutional Public Health Evaluation: The centre endeavours to foster a culture of public health evaluation within the institution by actively engaging in and facilitating a broader array of public health evaluation initiatives.
iii) Development of User Involvement Models: Another pivotal goal is to develop and implement models for the meaningful involvement of stakeholders and end-users in the evaluation process, ensuring that research outcomes are pertinent and practical.
iv) National Resource for Public Health Evaluation: The centre aspires to serve as a nationally recognised resource for expertise and knowledge in the realm of public health evaluation, thereby contributing to the broader public health discourse in Norway.
The Centre for Evaluation of Public Health Measures was established in 2018. Since its inception, the centre has been engaged in various evaluations within the field of public health, such as substance abuse and tobacco, dietary habits, obesity, mental health and parental guidance.
The centre will primarily conduct:
- Impact evaluations of specific interventions, and
- Studies based on natural experiments.
Researchers in the centre are gathered from different departments within the Norwegian Institute of Public Health. Their primary focus is the evaluation of public health measures, and they specialise in intervention research associated with the centre.
