The legal basis for the return of data is regulated in the Norwegian Health Registry Act (‘Forskrift om befolkningsbaserte helseundersøkelser’ §5-1) and the agreement entered into between NIPH and the responsible research institution prior to the start of the project.

MoBa wants to make the data available for further use in new research projects. For analysis results from biological material, the return is especially important as the material is a limited resource.

Results from analysis of biological material

Raw data from the analyses as well as any quality controlled (QC) results must be sent to MoBa. The data must be labelled with the RetrivelDetail-ID received by the laboratory with the samples.

Contact  to arrange the transfer of analysis results to MoBa. The file containing the analysis results should be encrypted to prevent unauthorised access by anyone other than the recipient. The password should be provided separately from the analysis results.

Keys for linking the results with MoBa questionnaire data will be released when the information and the raw data are transferred to MoBa.

Documentation – metadata

The results must be accompanied by a document describing the results as well as all abbreviations and definitions used. Any available data sheets with meta-data from instruments, kits and/or chips etc. used in the analysis should be attached.

MoBa requests that the forms listed below be completed by laboratory and principal investigator, respectively, and returned to MoBa . Please use one form per analysis or per laboratory.

GWAS and EWAS analysis

The method of transfer of GWAS or EWAS analysis is agreed with MoBa in each case. Keys for linking the results with MoBa questionnaire data will be released when the information and the raw data are transferred to MoBa.

You will find information on how to return results from GWAS or EWAS analysis on the following site:

Residual material

Residual material at the analysis laboratory shall be destroyed with the exception of those cases where MoBa has specifically requested that the material be returned to the MoBa Biobank. The PI must send a written confirmation of the destruction of the remaining biological material to MoBa adm .

Data collected in research projects and generated variables

Data collected from MoBa participants in research projects and generated variables based on MoBa data must be transferred to MoBa data in accordance with the agreement. The data must be accompanied by a document describing variables (variable documentation) and procedures for any investigations performed.
