According to the regulations of the individual health registries or health surveys, the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH) will charge for actual expenses in connection with administration, processing and delivery of data.
The project leader can request a cost estimate in the start phase of the case management.
Price for data from health registries
The hourly rate is adjusted annually. As of 1st January 2024, the rate is 1 115 Norwegian kroner per hour excl. VAT.
Price examples:
- Data from one registry in standardised format: 10,000 – 30,000 NOK excl. VAT
- Data from one registry with customisation: 15,000 – 60,000 NOK excl. VAT
- Data for linkage with other data sources: 15,000 – 60,000 NOK excl. VAT
The examples are for guidance only. The real cost will depend on actual time spent on processing and data delivery. The time used will depend on the complexity of the order, the quality and completeness of the application, the necessary permits and the need for follow-up of these.
Health data service has decision-making authority for access to data from the health registries at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health. When applying for access to data, Health data service will invoice for the costs associated with the processing of the application, and each individual register will invoice for the costs associated with processing and accessing the data.

For biological material, NIPH will also charge for the biobank's work with withdrawal, processing, shipping and possibly returning the material. Access to biological material from the Norwegian Mother, Father and Child Study (MoBa) is specially regulated (see price list below).
