Health and Social Care Interventions

Our cluster contributes to the mission of the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH) – to produce, summarise and communicate knowledge to promote good public health and high-quality health and care services through various external and internal assignments and collaborations.

We focus strongly on contributing to sound decision-making within the health services.

Who are we?

Our cluster consists of staff with diverse professional backgrounds, including health sciences, natural sciences and social sciences. Most of our team members have research experience, with many holding doctoral degrees. In addition, several have practical experience from health, care, and welfare services. Our core competence lies in research methodology, and we also have dedicated librarians who perform systematic literature searches.

What do we do, and for whom?

The cluster’s primary task is to produce systematic knowledge summaries and other knowledge products that inform good decision-making in health, care, and welfare services. We deliver regularly to several key clients and stakeholders, including:

• Norwegian municipalities, supporting their efforts with knowledge products and decision-making tools
• The Norwegian Directorate of Health, in their work on national guidelines and other normative frameworks
• Care and welfare directorates, particularly the Directorate for Children, Youth and Family Affairs
• The specialist health services, through the New Methods system
• The Ministry of Health and Care Services and other national authorities
• Additionally, we also collaborate on internal projects within NIPH.

Our work often involves questions about the effectiveness of interventions, whether in treatment, prevention, rehabilitation or organisational measures.

In addition to producing knowledge summaries, we undertake other tasks related to our core stakeholders and other clients. These include quality and development projects, as well as teaching and capacity building in knowledge management.

How do we work?

In developing knowledge summaries, we adhere to internationally recognised scientific methods. Our work is systematic and transparent, ensuring that methods, results and conclusions can be independently verified. We provide various types of knowledge products and engage in dialogue with stakeholders about new assignments, selecting products based on their needs and priorities, including research questions, resource use and timelines.

We continuously strive to ensure our outputs are of high quality, provide significant value and align resource use with intended benefits.
