Summary
This project will use the Norwegian health registries to understand the consequences of COVID-19 in pregnant women.
Abstract
A novel viral disease was discovered in China in November 2019. The virus was later named Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and causes the disease COVID-19. The world is now facing a pandemic with a high degree of unpredictability. We still know little about whether pregnant women have a higher risk of becoming ill, and how COVID-19 can affect pregnant women and their pregnancy outcome. It is uncertain whether the virus can be transmitted to the fetus directly, but there are reports of an increased risk of some pregnancy complications, such as Caesarean delivery and premature birth.
This project will use the Norwegian health registries to understand the importance of COVID-19 in pregnant women. We will include information from Norwegian health registries about women between the ages of 15 and 45 who live in Norway.
