About the pilot

This pilot study aims to test a new method for monitoring important risk factors for non-communicable diseases (NCD) such as overweight and obesity, high blood pressure, high blood glucose, high total cholesterol and dyslipidemia in the population.
What is the study about?
Joint Action Prevent NCD (JA PreventNCD) is a joint European health initiative aimed at preventing NCD such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and lung diseases,
The current study is a pilot study led by the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH) as part of the JA PreventNCD project. We will test a new method for collecting data on risk factors in patients from 20 general practitioners recruited from The Norwegian Primary Care Research Network. The focus is on clinical risk factors that cannot be catured by questionnaires, such as height, weight, waist and hip circumferences, blood pressure, cholesterol and other blood lipids, and long-term blood glucose. This will provide us with valuable knowledge on the feasibility of this method for collecting new data as part of a potential monitoring system for risk factors in the population.
The pilot project will be conducted in Norway, but the results will be relevant for several European countries, particular in light of the new Safe Hearts Plan launched by EU in 2025 where health checks for cardiovascular disease is one of the flagship initiatives.
Participation in the study
The aim of the project is to include 300 people aged 18 to 70 years. Participants will be randomly selected from patient lists at 20 general practitioners in Norway, and all must provide their consent to participate. It is not possible to sign up on your own.
If you are selected as a participant, you will be offered free measurements of height, weight, waist and hip circumference, blood pressure, cholesterol and other blood lipids, and long-term blood glucose at your GP’s office.
Personvern og behandling av data
The processing of your personal data follows the Personal Data Act and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Privacy and health data
All personal data will be stored through Services for Sensitive Data (TSD), which is a secure project area for the processing and storage of sensitive research data.
