The mandatory national health registries were established to maintain national functions. They are used for health analysis, health statistics, improving the quality of healthcare, research, administration and emergency preparedness.
The registries are regulated according to the Act relating to Personal Health Data Registries. The registries with personally identifiable information that are not based on consent are established after evaluation by the Norwegian government.
