MoBa Coronavirus Survey

Mothers and fathers participating in the Norwegian Mother, Father and Child Cohort Study (MoBa) are invited twice a year to help improve our understanding of the coronavirus epidemic in Norway.
About the MoBa Coronavirus Questionnaire
Twice a year, parents participating in MoBa receive a text message with a link to a coronavirus questionnaire. With nearly 170,000 participants living across Norway, representing a wide range of family situations, occupations and health statuses, MoBa provides a valuable cross-section of the population. This helps to increase our knowledge about the spread and burden of the coronavirus in different groups.
The questionnaire collects information on symptoms of Covid-19, medical consultations and testing. It also includes questions about vaccination status and any side effects experienced after receiving a vaccine. It also includes questions about quarantine, isolation, and other measures taken to prevent the spread of the virus.
The data collected through the survey is used for research purposes. By linking responses from the coronavirus questionnaires with existing MoBa data and biological samples, researchers can explore important questions about the long-term effects of the consequences of Covid-19 and evaluate the impact of public health measures implemented to prevent the spread of the virus.
How often is the questionnaire sent out?
Previously, the coronavirus questionnaires were sent out every two weeks, but the frequency has now been reduced to twice a year and only goes out to previous responders of the coronavirus survey. It remains important to monitor any changes in symptoms and potential short- or long-term side effects of vaccines. The plan is to continue sending out the coronavirus questionnaires until spring 2026.
Practical information for participants
To take part in the MoBa coronavirus survey, you must be a registered MoBa participant and have received an invitation via SMS. The SMS contains a secure link to the digital questionnaire. The questionnaire is administered using Nettskjema, a secure data collection tool. All responses are stored in the Services for Sensitive Data (TSD) at the University of Oslo, ensuring high standards of data protection. Researchers do not have access to personally identifiable information. Participation is entirely voluntary.
Mobile phone numbers used for sending invitations are retrieved from the national contact and reservation register (Kontakt- og reservasjonsregisteret, KRR), in accordance with necessary permissions and approvals.
