Background
Gizachew is a perinatal and reproductive epidemiologist and health care services researcher with research interest that employed advanced statistical analysis, mixed methods research (MMR), and qualitative study. He obtained his PhD in Public Health (2018) from the University of Adelaide and received the Dean’s Commendation for Doctoral Thesis Excellence before obtaining his MPH (2012) and Bachelor's degree in Public Health (2009) in Ethiopia. He has also received an adjuct research fellow position at the School of Public Health, University of Adelaide. Gizachew's current research work is focusing on an NHMRC project that aimed to investigate the effect of interpregnancy intervals on adverse perinatal outcomes in high-income countries spanning Australia, Norway, Finland, United States, and Canada. He taught reproductive health, health promotion, and maternal and child health courses at the University of Gondar (Ethiopia). His research focus includes, but not limited to, perinatal epidemiology, maternal health, family planning and reproductive health, health services research, and global health. Gizachew works at Curtin University and was awarded the Gro Harlem Brundtland Visiting Scholarship to stay at the Centre for Fertility and Health for 3 months. He also recieved the Charter Hall Collaboration Award from the Raine Medical Foundation at the University of Western Australia. In his stay at the Centre, Gizachew will explore the effect of pregnancy loss (miscarriage/induced abortion and stillbirth) on the association between interpregnancy interval and adverse perinatal outcomes using Norwegian registry data.
