Go to the home pageBelgium has crossed the limit set at 20 covid-19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days. Earlier this week, the government asked the Norwegian Directorate of Health and the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH) for new assessments of the infection situation.
"Figures we obtained at the beginning of the week showed that Belgium was well above the limit we have set, and, is currently above 30 new covid-19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days. Therefore, we recommended that Belgium should be marked in red in the overview of countries where quarantine is required for people arriving in Norway", says senior medical officer Siri Helene Hauge at the NIPH.
Valid from midnight
Based on the Norwegian Institute of Public Health's assessment of the covid-19 infection rates in Belgium, the government has decided to change the country's status. Therefore the country is indicated with a "red" status on the map for Europe. This also changes the travel advice. All travellers from Belgium who arrive in Norway from midnight on Saturday 1st. of August will be required to go into quarantine for ten days.
On Thursday, the government sent out a press release about the change:
Be aware of symptoms
People who have come from a country or regions that shortly after arrival in Norway receive the status "red", are not quarantined, but they must pay special attention to the symptoms of covid-19, test themselves if necessary and be careful to keep a distance to others, at least one meter.
The assessments of countries and regions that satisfy the criteria for entry into Norway from EU / EEA / Schengen countries without a quarantine obligation are made every 14 days, unless there is a need to make changes earlier.
