20. mai - 24. mai 2019 - 09:00-15:00 | Workshop
Klækken Hotel

The workshop will be held May 20 – May 24, 2019 at Klækken Hotel, which is situated at the foot of the Nordmarka forest, surrounded by a private park and with a view to the Norefjell about an hour’s drive from both Oslo and Gardemoen.

The practical strategies taught at the EBHC Workshop have been developed over the past three decades by clinicians, epidemiologists, biostatisticians, health economists and others working together to combine basic scientific principles with common sense. Our workshop faculty includes leading evidence-based health care researchers and educators from the Nordic countries and internationally.

Past participants have included physicians, nurses, policy makers, physical therapists, medical librarians, health care journalists, health care consumer advocates and educators.

The workshop is an intense, hands-on learning experience. We will use a small group, problem-based approach to learning.

Small Group Sessions

Participants are divided into small groups (generally 8 participants, a tutor and a co-tutor) based on interest areas and experience levels. Each small group is participant-directed and sets its own agenda, including which healthcare topics or questions to use as examples and how best to use the small group time to learn about different types of evidence and different skills. Prior to the workshop, participants will receive educational materials to provide the focus for these sessions, including a set of healthcare problems, examples of evidence that address these problems and users' guides about how to critically appraise and use the evidence when making decisions. A number of the small groups will have English as working language.

Plenary Sessions

All participants meet together once a day for a general learning or "plenary" session. These sessions are designed to be fun and informative, and to provide an opportunity to interact with participants and faculty from outside the small group. All plenary sessions will be in English.

Upon completion of this workshop, participants should be able to:

  • Formulate questions arising from their own health care practice that can be answered
  • Identify relevant evidence that can be used to answer questions and make well-informed clinical decisions
  • Critically appraise the validity and applicability of evidence
  • Use valid and applicable evidence to make well-informed health care decisions
