Successful collaboration between Moldova and Norway
On the 8th-9th April, Directors of Public Health Institutes met at the annual IANPHI (International Association of Public Health Institutes) meeting in Chisinau in Moldova.
Moldova's 70th anniversary
The venue was not chosen by coincidence. In 2019, the Moldovan Public Health Agency celebrates its 70th anniversary and the 5-year successful collaboration between the Norwegian and Moldovan institutes. The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs supported the organization of the meeting in the capital in Moldova and the Norwegian Institute of Public Health helped with the scientific content and practical arrangement of the meeting. The two institutes have collaborated since 2015 within the framework of the Global Health Preparedness Programme.
Camilla Stoltenberg received award
In the opening session, Moldova's Minister of Health Silvia Radu thanked the Norwegian Institutions for continuous support and gave a special award of appreciation to Camilla Stoltenberg. During the meeting, the twinning projects between the Moldovan and Norwegian Institutes of Public Health, were often evoked as an example how high-income countries can support countries with less resources in building their capacity in Public Health and emergency preparedness.
20 countries represented
The meeting gathered almost 60 participants from 20 countries and several international organizations. The topics included sharing experiences from reorganization and merging of Public Health institutions, dealing with social controversies, private-public partnerships, role of Public Health institutes in global preparedness, and current topics like vaccination policies, whole genome sequencing and collaboration with WHO on universal health coverage and sustainable development goals.
