Effect of mass media communication about health promoting behaviours to immigrants - project description

Summary

The Norwegian population is generally in good health, but health and disease vary related to different social parameters. The immigrant population has as a group increased risk of several diseases compared to the population at large. Thus, more intense efforts should be made to prevent health problems among immigrants. Since information and awareness campaigns are commonly used strategies in preventive health care, it is important to document the effect of such measures in immigrants. The Norwegian directorate of health and the Norwegian Cancer Society request that we review effect of mass media communication about health promoting behaviours related to alcohol, nutrition, physical activity and tobacco to immigrants and ethnic minorities.
