The MOVING database is a repository of global data on physical activity policy actions, containing information on what governments have implemented to encourage people to move more. The database collects policy actions from around the world that are implemented on a national level and are currently in effect.
The MOVING database is structured around the MOVING policy framework. The framework organises the database into different policy domains, policy areas, and sub-policy areas. Each letter in the word MOVING represents one of six areas where governments need to take action.
The database includes information on programmes that promote activity across the life course, including at schools and workplaces; active travel through walking and cycling infrastructure, access to green spaces; education for everyone about the benefits of living an active life, and much more from around the world.
World Cancer Research Fund International launched the MOVING policy framework and database in June 2020 as part of their involvement in the CO-CREATE project. In the last year, they have now added information on physical activity policies implemented from 15 countries around Europe and South Africa with a total of 283 policies and the database keeps growing!
The database has been featured in multiple events, including World Obesity’s physical activity policy dossier launch, and the recently broadcasted World Café jointly organised by CO-CREATE with partners – STOP, JA Best-ReMAP, and PEN.
