CO-CREATE colleagues at the World Cancer Research Fund International have been hard at work generating evidence and infrastructure to support local and national policy changes to make healthy choices the easiest, most appealing, and preferred choices for adolescents across Europe. The NOURISHING and MOVING databases highlight where governments need to take action to promote healthy diets and decrease physical inactivity. New datasets of diet-related policies and physical activity policies across Europe have been added to both databases. A recent publication in the Journal of Physical Activity and Health also provides insight into the development of the MOVING framework.

WCRF International’s NOURISHING & MOVING databases now include full datasets of diet-related policies from 18 countries in NOURISHING and physical activity policies from 14 countries in MOVING, totalling over 800 policies across both databases. It is anticipated that relevant policies from 27 European focus countries will be added to both databases by the end of 2022.

New publication for MOVING
You can also learn about the development of the MOVING policy framework in CO-CREATE's new publication in the Journal of Physical Activity and Health. The framework was developed to support the identification of physical activity policy gaps, in addition to improving and standardising physical activity policy research. The MOVING database is structured around the six policy areas identified in the framework.
Preliminary policy benchmarking results available soon
Two benchmarking tools to help assess countries’ performance in the design of their nutrition and physical activity policies will be applied to the 27 datasets from European countries, once available in the databases. Preliminary findings were presented in late 2021 at the International Society for Physical Activity and Health (ISPAH) Congress and the European Public Health Conference. Results from benchmarking diet and physical activity policies from the 5 CO-CREATE countries – the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, and the UK - are being prepared for presentation at the European Congress on Obesity and the International Society of Behavioural Nutrition and Physical Activity (ISBNPA) Annual Meeting, in May 2022.
