Go to the home pageOverweight and obesity is a chronic disease that affects more than 2 billion people. On the surface, obesity has been misperceived by many as a simple lifestyle choice. But below the surface, we know that the roots of obesity are vast and deep. Established in 2015 as an annual campaign with the goal of stimulating and supporting practical actions that will help people achieve and maintain a healthy weight and reverse the global obesity crisis, the campaign this year will focus on changing the narratives around obesity globally in coordination with national and regional efforts.
World Obesity Day will include global recognition as well as regional and national campaigns and local activities and events. As part of our effort to support this campaign and address the roots of obesity, over the next few weeks CO-CREATE will:
- Work towards breaking some of the myths associated with obesity, including get the response and reactions of adolescents in some of our Alliances regarding some these exposed myths and facts;
- Work on developing a number of short videos including some on the importance of youth engagement and weight stigma;
- Work with the youth alliances and challenge them to think about, from their perspective, what is needed to address the roots of obesity.
Follow our effort supporting this campaign through our Twitter and Instagram accounts, our youth-facing website Healthy Voices and make sure to check this page regularly for updates.
