CEIR conducted a course for Nordic public health institutes on designing effectiveness studies of infection control measures
During the COVID-19 pandemic, various types of infection control measures were implemented, but we still know relatively little about the effectiveness of the different measures in reducing the spread of infection, weighed against the disadvantages they entail. From 14–16 September, the Centre for Epidemic Intervention Research (CEIR) conducted a course on randomized studies of infection control measures.
The course developed theoretical and practical skills in formulating a specific research question that could be answered using a randomized study. The aim of the course was to enable participants to develop a draft research protocol for an effectiveness study of an infection control measure.
The course was a deliverable under the NordPrep collaboration – the Nordic Pandemic Resilience and Preparedness Network. This was a Nordic network project funded by NordForsk (under the Nordic Council of Ministers) for the period 2025–2028. It brought together the public health institutes of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. Researchers from Canada and Japan also participated. The course contributed to NordPrep’s ambition to strengthen the expertise and capacity of the Nordic public health institutes to conduct effectiveness studies of infection control measures.
