Enabling environments for non-communicable disease (NCD) risk reduction in Ethiopia
ENABLE aims to reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) by reducing the life-long prevalence of major NCD risk factors among pregnant women in Ethiopia.
Principal Investigators: Dr. Eleni Papadopoulou (NIPH) and Dr. Masresha Tessema (EPHI)
The project is designed to promote healthy diets, physical activity and reduce exposure to air pollution in a clean and supportive urban environment. The overall objective of the ENABLE is to equitably implement context-adapted, evidence-based interventions to promote positive behaviour change.
The project will take place in urban communities in four cities in Ethiopia: Addis Ababa, Adama, Harar, and Jimma.
Legal basis and approval of the project
The project will submit an application for approval to the Regional Committees for Medical and Health Research Ethics (REK SørØst) and other required ethical processes in participating countries (i.e., Norway and Ethiopia). In addition, a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) will be conducted prior to the start of the trial.
The project consists of a consortium of 11 organisations listed below, with the NIPH as co-ordinator:
