New responsibilities in 2016

From 1st January 2016, the Norwegian Knowledge Centre for the Health Services, the Norwegian Institute for Alcohol and Drug Research (SIRUS) and the secretariat of the Norwegian Scientific Committee for Food Safety (VKM) will be incorporated into the Norwegian Institute of Public Health.

The Norwegian Institute of Public Health has received an expanded social mission from the Ministry of Health and Care Services, with complete responsibility for knowledge production and knowledge summaries for the entire health sector.

Better use of expertise

As a result of the incorporation, research groups working within similar areas will be brought together, leading to synergies and better use of scientific expertise.

The incorporation is part of a government reform which aims to simplify and streamline the national health administration.
