Open seminar: Key concepts for making informed health choices

18. sep | 2019

Claims about the effects of treatments, policies, and other types of actions are in the mass media, advertisements, and personal communication daily. The ability to assess these claims and make informed choices depends on understanding and applying key concepts that are essential for making judgements about whether the claim is justified, whether the evidence used to support it is trustworthy, and whether to act based on the claim.

The IHC project has developed learning resources for schoolchildren and their parents with the objective of improving their ability to think critically about health interventions. As our starting point, we developed a list of key concepts that people need to understand to assess these claims. The list, which currently includes 44 concepts, is updated yearly. This discussion will feed into this year’s update.
